The Chinese Communist Party has ordered its state-controlled airlines to halt all deliveries of Boeing aircraft, striking a blow to one of America’s manufacturing giants.
The directive, reported by Bloomberg News, comes as a retaliatory jab in response to President Donald Trump’s bold 145% tariffs on Chinese goods—a policy aimed at leveling the playing field for American workers long exploited by China’s unfair trade practices.
Boeing, the US’ largest exporter, now faces the loss of a critical market.
China’s top three airlines—Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern—had planned to receive 179 Boeing planes between 2025 and 2027.
This abrupt cancellation not only jeopardizes thousands of American jobs but also underscores the CCP’s willingness to weaponize trade to achieve its geopolitical ambitions.

Trump on Tuesday weighed in to criticize Beijing with a post on his Truth Social network. China “just reneged on the big Boeing deal” signed during his first administration, he said.
About 10 Boeing 737 Max aircraft are preparing to enter Chinese airline fleets, including two each for China Southern Airlines Co., Air China Ltd. and Xiamen Airlines Co., based on data from Aviation Flights Group. Some of the jets are parked near Boeing’s factory base in Seattle while others are at a finishing center in Zhoushan in eastern China, according to the production-tracking firm’s website.
Delivery paperwork and payment on some of these jets may have been completed before the reciprocal tariffs announced by China on April 11 took effect on April 12, and those planes may be allowed to enter China on a case-by-case basis, some of the people said.
This isn’t the first time China has weaponized its market power against American industry.
In 2019, Beijing suspended Boeing orders following the 737 MAX crashes, a decision many saw as politically motivated to undermine U.S. dominance in aerospace.
Today’s escalation, however, is a clear signal that China is willing to sacrifice its own aviation needs to flex its muscles in the trade war, even as its domestic C919 jet program remains a fledgling competitor to Boeing and Europe’s Airbus, heavily reliant on—you guessed it—American components.
