The war with Iran has now moved into a far more dangerous phase after nonstop strikes and the U.S. military’s acknowledgment that service members have been lost, including 19-year-old Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and 25-year-old Lt. Tyler James Feehan.
Trump and Rubio have since framed the latest strikes as being launched in honor of those troops killed in Jordan.
That shift matters because for weeks the Trump administration, along with its MAGA influencers and Fox News mouthpieces, insisted that Iranian military capabilities had been completely demolished and that the Strait of Hormuz was open as usual. But the reality on the ground tells a very different story: U.S. bases and Gulf allies continue to be targeted and hit, and the war keeps escalating instead of winding down.
The result is a widening escalation ladder. U.S. service members on the ground remain vulnerable, pressure builds for even larger retaliation, and the idea of boots on the ground becomes harder to avoid with every new strike. The longer this continues, the more the world is forced to confront what comes next in a war with no obvious exit.
