The discussion then turned toward the role of Israel, the historical creation of the modern Israeli state following the Balfour Declaration, and claims that Israel functions as a strategic Western outpost in the Middle East. According to this view, the region’s importance is not merely ideological but deeply economic and geopolitical, particularly due to control over trade corridors and energy routes.
At the same time, frustration is growing within sections of the American right over President Donald Trump and accusations that his foreign policy drifted away from the “America First” promises that energized his base. Critics argue that many voters supported Trump specifically because he promised to avoid “forever wars” and reduce American involvement overseas.
Yet others counter that Trump repeatedly attacked globalism in public speeches, including remarks at World Economic Forum gatherings in Davos and during United Nations appearances where he emphasized national sovereignty over supranational governance. To supporters, this demonstrated an authentic challenge to the post-Cold War global order.
The debate becomes even more complicated when examining who truly holds influence around political leaders. Some point toward billionaire donors, lobby groups, defense interests, intelligence networks, and technology elites. Others argue elected politicians are merely public-facing figures operating inside much larger power structures.
