WHEN Cairns News searched the ABC news website for stories on the criminal accusations against Barack Obama and others in relation to the US Department of National Intelligence (DNI) RussiaGate investigation, our suspicions were confirmed.
ABC is indeed following the lead of its US news partner CNN in censoring a story as big as, if not bigger, than the historic Nixon Watergate scandal of the 1970s.
When we searched the ABC with the word group “Trump accuses Obama RussiaGate” we initially thought they had entirely censored the story. But five old Trump-Obama stories down the list we found the ABC’s coverage – a whole 37 second video headlined “Trump lashes out at Obama over Russia links”.
The report did not even mention the DNI investigation and report, just Trump saying “we have the proof … Obama did it … it’s very criminal” and further accusing Obama and Hillary Cllinton of rigging the 2020 presidential election. The ABC’s clip could have been some Trump-style off-the-cuff jab at Obama, if you didn’t know the background.
Sky News Australia, by contrast, aired a seven-minute, detailed report (above) on the accusations, recording the moment that CNN cut in and began talking over the DNI Gabbard’s briefing (4.33 mark), saying the DNI had made statements and released documents over a number of days “to attempt to back up the quite extreme allegation that President Obama is guilty of treason and that he worked in some sort of conspiracy with Hillary Clinton, etcetera, in the assessment by the intelligence community at the time that Russia interfered in the 2016 election …”
