John Howard has the gall to support “sensible” tightening of gun laws based on the fraud of Port Arthur

By Jim O’Toole

On Thursday Labor Opposition leader Stephen Miles introduced amendments in parliament to Queensland’s gun laws which align with Western Australia’s dreaded model. This could involve mental assessments, stricter conditions for licence renewals, property assessments for firearm usage, and potential caps on firearm ownership.

All politicians and senior journalists should be subjected to annual psychiatric testing after suggesting gun owners have mental checks, several members of shooting organisations have told Cairns News.

John Howard wants
tougher gun laws. Has
he ever handled a
firearm in his life?

There have been suggestions police officers undergo similar mental checks after all they are carrying firearms on the job and every Queensland officer, barring 196 top cops, had received a Covid jab, leaving them at risk of neurological problems, a shooting party member said.

“How could Howard, other Liberal and Labor politicians and Tasmanian state politicians of the time have this terrible massacre on their conscience without bringing those involved to account?” the member asked.

There has been a growing movement across Australia calling to reopen the inquest into the deaths of 35 people at Port Arthur in the wake of the WASP File videos all over social media which clearly and concisely detail overwhelming evidence that jailed, intellectually disabled Martin Bryant could not and did not shoot anybody,

Politicians at the time rejected the continuation of an inquest after the Tasmanian Coroner who began proceedings closed them down saying his findings would have been different to those of the Supreme Court where Martin Bryant was forced to plead guilty by his attorney.

On Friday John Howard called for a sensible strengthening of gun laws, while Queensland’s’ top cop declared a major mental health check recommendation – born of the Wieambilla police massacre – must be looked at.

There is much more to be divulged about the Wieambilla incident in SW Queensland where two police officers were shot and killed along with four landowners near Tara three years ago.

State Coroner Terry Ryan in his findings of the Wieambilla shootings released two weeks ago recommended gun owners undergo psychiatric testing before getting a licence.

Mr Howard had only been leading the country for 50 days when Australia was rocked by the 1996 Port Arthur massacre that left 35 people dead and 21 injured.

Within a week he enacted an unprecedented crackdown on guns and introduced the most far-reaching gun reforms in the country’s history, including a total ban on the ownership, sale, possession and importation of automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

Asked whether he thought a key recommendation made in the wake of the Wieambilla police massacre to enforce mandatory mental health checks for gun license holders should be adopted, Mr Howard encouraged the strengthening of existing gun laws.

When asked about the mental health assessments for weapons, Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said police would “look very closely at it”.

“Yeah, look for me, anything that keeps people safer, we definitely have to look at it,” he said.

“We don’t want to go there, but we know that there’s an over-representation of people with mental health issues in relation to those sorts of situations.

“So I think that’s a really important one to look at.”

Mr Gollschewski said he met with Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic this week about issues relating to mental health.

“I’d love the situation where none of my officers ever have to pull their firearm and use it. And in particular someone with mental health issues.”

Psychological epidemic among police

Queensland Police is experiencing its worst recruitment crisis in five years with hundreds of officers quitting the force and 2,000 more out of action.

During the last financial year 709 officers resigned, 1,355 were sick for more than 25 days, and 650 were off on long-term psychological leave, according to new police data.

Former Detective Inspector Dr Terry Goldsworthy said the exodus was a result of organisational failure, and warned the statistics showed growth was not fast enough to meet recruitment targets.

“It’s not that they don’t want to be police, it’s just the way the organisation is malfunctioning rather than functioning,” he told 7News.

The data shows the Brisbane region is bearing the brunt of the crisis, with officers there taking the highest amount of stress leave in the past year, and Acting Police Union President Andy Williams said the capital had 40% of the state’s demand, but far from 40% of the resources.

Covid vaccine taking neurological toll

Nowhere has the massive impact of Covid mRNA vaccine causing severe neurological damage been mentioned yet the world’s top medical authorities such as the McCullough Foundation which advises US Congress, CDC and the EU has warned of the risk.

  • Abstract: Neuropsychiatric Conditions: Reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) have shown “alarming safety signals” for a range of neuropsychiatric conditions (including cognitive dysfunction, psychiatric illness, and brain impairment symptoms) following COVID-19 vaccination compared to other vaccines, according to analyses referenced by McCullough and colleagues. These findings are from passive surveillance systems.

All in all it seems psychiatry could be the next growth industry but the imbroglio of staged shooting incidents and disarmament haunts the political class because guns do not shoot people.

People do.
