According to an analysis by The Trace, road rage shootings have surged dramatically in the United States over the past decade. Between 2014 and 2023, the number of people shot in road rage incidents increased more than 400 percent, rising from 92 to 481 victims. In total, angry drivers shot 3,095 people during that period, which averages to nearly one person every day. Shockingly, one in four of those victims—777 individuals—lost their lives due to road rage shootings. These incidents occur across the country, often triggered by collisions or aggressive driving behaviors. The motivations behind these shootings vary, but the consequences are tragically real. For instance, in a case from March 2020, a driver in Sunnyvale, California, fired six shots at another motorist after a minor collision.
