Iran and Oman are Close to Reaching an Agreement to Resume Shipping Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, Solidifying Tehran’s Control over the Vital Waterway, according to the New York Times

Officials familiar with the emerging agreement stated that ships heading to the Persian Gulf will pass through a channel controlled by Iran and close to its coast, while ships leaving the Gulf will travel through a channel near Oman.
Iranian officials say that while no tolls will be charged, the agreement includes a “service fee” to cover the environmental impact of shipping, the security of cargo ships and tankers, and personnel. The revenue will be divided equally between Iran and Oman.
