Should Indonesia Toll the Malacca Straight?

By Jamie Mcintyre

Don’t Tax the World’s Busiest Shipping Lane. Build the World’s Next Great City.

Nearly 22% of global maritime trade passes through the Strait of Malacca every year, with more than 100,000 ships using the route annually.

Instead of charging ships a transit toll, Indonesia has a far greater opportunity.

Build Malacca City.

A brand-new world-class city on the Indonesian side of the Strait featuring a major deep-water port, international airport hub, free-trade zone, financial centre, logistics hub, universities, technology precincts, and
modern waterfront communities.

This proposal forms part of Jamie McIntyre’s vision for Indonesia to develop six new master-planned cities, each designed for more than two million residents, helping position Indonesia as one of the world’s leading
economies.

LUX Property Group is already helping bring that vision to life through the planned Nesara Bay City eco-city in South Lombok, where civil works have commenced while final approvals progress, and has also proposed a
major eco-resort, convention centre, man-made beach and lagoon precinct, and expatriate mixed-use district within Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara.

Indonesia doesn’t need to profit from ships simply passing by.

It can create far greater prosperity by building cities where the world chooses to stop, invest, innovate and live.

Build value. Build cities. Build Indonesia’s future.
